Evening all, Just wondered if anyone can help me out with any pictures & dimensions of 70s/80s British Army 5 gallon oil drums please. As used for say, OMD 110, OEP 220 & such like. Trying to establish exactly what the top looked like so I can get some 1/24th scale ones made.....they had a bog seat shaped pressing & a flat wire ring carry handle if the old memory is working correctly. Single piccy of the top would be great, dimensions just need to be height & diameter if anyone can help, much appreciated chaps. Best regs. Howard @ KFS kfs1@btinternet.com

For my Ferret the Merlin report shows it as RY LAD from 5/12/89 until 11/5/93. The record card for this period shows Code change from 0122-4101 to 0122-4000. I assume RY is Royal Yeomanry but do Merlin reports normally go into such detail as LAD? If the vehicle was transferred from the LAD to a squadron would Merlin know, or care? Gordon

The OP query was in the main about considering a ANGLE Impact , and it does seem they now exist (as opposed to nut-runners). The main problem as I see it is that these modern better make 10 volt re-chargeable - they must be like any battery , you work them -then they have a recuperation period that you must permit by resting between hammering away , otherwise they will sooner flatten. A poster states he would expect a monring's work - but this can't possibly be near continuous usage. I would have to learn more about this.

Don't know what the reserve is of course, but going rate for one of these, private sale, is around the £6 to £7k mark for a good one. I am not sure of the finer points on the G3 so cannot tell if its 100%. But even if it isn't it could be a good buy. I would want to check out how the restoration was done - on a complete and original bike or did it require parts and if so what were these bits - genuine or repro? For example, if for some reason the bloke used repro' Indian-made girder forks, that is a disaster and try and find a useable set of original ones! I have posed a query as to how g

The forked steering arm answers a long standing query I have, for that format is so different to the otherwise standard ball units of the time. One steering box arm here has this forked design and as such has been the point of concern for it does not follow the form as shown in parts manuals for Thornycrofts. However as the vehicle in question ( pre ww1) pre dates the manuals one has to be open to changes. Your postings have provided an answer.

Hi, I read this forum regularly with great interest & just find it amazing what vehicles are still around & being tackled by very clever people. Keep up the great work in preserving these vehicles. I have a non military K Model Bedford 1953 I'm currently "renovating" & keeping it as original as possible. Just have one question on my Bedford 28HP Engine before & tackle it & I thought I'd ask on this forum as there are a number of folk who have restored Bedford trucks. Is there a welch plug (cup plug) at the back of the motor behind the clutch housing?

Hi All, I was advised to contact this forum as someone I was speaking to only had info for soft sided vehicles. My Grandad drove a Bren Gun Carrier in WW2 in the 2nd Glasgow Highlanders as part of the 15th Scottish Division. His carrier was named Ypres. I intend to make a model of it, what I am after is how were the vehicles numbered? Is there information anywhere that lists units and their vehicles numbering systems and also how they were named? I appreciate any help that you guys and girls can give me. Thank You Alex Anderson

When we acquire a vehicle whether or not it is an MV, classic car or everyday vehicle, I guess that most of us register it with the DVLA using the address of the owner and not the address of where the vehicle is kept? Which is it that the DVLA require? In current times of Covid-19 and potential for local lockdowns, it occurred to me that if and when the Police had / have the powers to turn vehicles around that appear not to be from the area, whether vehicles should be registered where they are kept, if the owner happened to be in the lockdown area and wish to use the vehicle within the

Hi could you please help me with a query about triumph crankshafts. I know that my bike is a civilian bike a Triumph T80 but it is very similar to the bikes you guys have. My query is does anybody know if cranks from other bikes of this period are interchangeable as I am struggling to find crankshaft say for my Tiger with the correct part numbers. When I have looked at the technical information in the book by A.St.J . Masters most of the bikes have the same measurements e.g.Stroke. To cut a long story short will a crank from say a Triumph 3HW fit my Tiger Thanks Mark

Ben Yafo here, being a nuisance about Landies yet again! I've been searching in my reference library and the Internet for interior details for a group of Military Series IIA vehicles I wish to model in 1:76; a couple of LWB GS, one LWB FFR and, perhaps, the same in SWB. I've found nothing so far. Does anyone have the dimensions - and, hopefully, some photographs or drawings - of the rear bench seats in the LWB and SWB GS, and a radio layout for both FFR?

Hopefully of use to someone for research, a general view of traffic in Stanstead in which there are four or five army landrovers caught on this colour clip with some markings and badges visible. https://www.britishpathe.com/video/juggernauts-in-stanstead/query/juggernaut

Tony, in reply to your query about Wally having the book in a box, it appears he is having major work done on his house and his collection of literature is currently in storage.

Sorry these have taken so long but it's only recently while extracting some hay making equipment that I've had a chance to get anywhere near our old Karrier (or remains of). I seem to remember there was a query about the prop tube, anyway our chassis still has it fitted, hope pictures are helpful/of interest. Keep up the great work! Regards. Ed.

Hi all. I am hoping to take my GMC from the UK to Veghel next year for the 2019 Arnhem event. Please could someone tell me if I require an OGEL for the truck. I have not taken the truck abroad before , so any advice would be welcome. Thanks Steve.

We have finally taken delivery of our Leyland Hippo. Luckily for us, it doesn't require a lot of work to get it back on the road and in anticipation we want get the stock of paint together. Additionally, the rear wheels on ours is completely different to any other I've seen. Was this normal and okay or do we (at some stage) need to find a replacement set? I have included a photo of ours (just after delivery) and the paint scheme that we want to paint it in. Can someone share what the codes are please. Kind Regards Lawrence

I passed my category H some years back, and am presently thinking about buying a small piece of land near where I live to build a garage on to house an FV432. However, access to the land is over the pavement and I am very wary about the potential to cause damage to the paving/roads. You can see the pavement in the attached image. Does anyone with experience of driving FV432s know if (with proper pads fitted and driving at the 20mph limit) they are likely to cause any damage to the roads, and furthermore whether they are likely to wreck that pavement if they mount it to access the garage?

Hi Gents! So the engine assembly is going well but Its generated a small query. In my James maintenance manual and instruction book on page 15 it shows a spacer between the two main crank bearings (item 34) on the drive side of the engine. This part was not in situ when I stripped the engine. I am just wondering if anyone can shed more light onto this spacer, please size/thickness/material? thank you all!

Just another oddity turned up during searches of images of early British Army involvement in Northern Ireland. The leading chap here seems to have a somewhat unusual pack, in contrast to the '58 Pattern packs of the men behind. The flap straps and fittings seem similar to those of the second '44 Pattern haversack but it also seems to have a front and side pouches... Any ideas?

Just a quick query. I quite like the new timeline view on the new posts, but if you edit a post does it show it in the timeline? I'm wondering if we can now edit the first post in a thread (e.g. showing progress) and have the post show up again in the timeline, or whether it only shows new posts in that thread.

In reply to the query about the spare wheel, believe it goes under the rear of the body on a machinery bodied truck, will double check on my one tomorrow, I’m sure I can remember seeing a carrier under there!!

Those additional stamped marks is something I had not observed on the parts here. Then again the plates have not been cleaned up so those lighter stampings will be hidden under years of dust and grit. Another task therefore to go out and clean vehicles ID plates and record the inspection stamps. Like Mammoth says, probably inspectors stamps. What is now called QA This query on the plates has caused me to look over the items in storage, and photos of those elsewhere, and up date the Leyland data base to include more of the plates as used on assembled parts. Shows some vehicles have had s

Probably a daft question to some . I'm in the process of making some new Rocker cover studs for the MW and the 3\8" UNC thread on the stud is tapered . The query I have is .............. will the thread in the head be parallel ? if I re cut the new stud with a std die will it suffice ? as its not a sealing joint................. or is it :nut:. What's the reason for using a tapered thread for the rocker cover stud ? I thought a std parallel thread would have been sufficient . Dave
